Before you even think about swinging a hammer, take a long, hard look at your house. What exactly needs gutting? Is it just the kitchen and bathroom, or are we talking the whole shebang? Be brutally honest with yourself about the scope of the project. Taking on too much at once can be overwhelming and lead to cost overruns and delays.
