The Limitations of Traditional Punishment
For decades, the dominant approach to justice has centered on punishment: incarceration, fines, and other penalties aimed at retribution and deterrence. While these methods might offer a sense of immediate justice, they often fail to address the root causes of criminal behavior. Studies consistently show high recidivism rates, indicating that many individuals who experience the punitive justice system end up back in it. This suggests a fundamental flaw in the system’s ability to truly address the issue, focusing instead on simply locking people away rather than helping them to rebuild their lives.
